In Gopalganj district of Bihar, 33 teachers have been fired because their jobs were not legally filled. An official said the High Court supported a decision that said their hiring was not right. These teachers were given jobs in places where the original teachers had either quit or passed away, but those positions were never officially marked as open.

Yogesh Kumar, the District Education Officer (DEO), explained that after 2010, some teachers who left their jobs did not have their positions declared vacant. The District Appellate Authority later said these jobs were open and hired the 33 teachers. However, the district education officials disagreed with this and took the issue to the State Appellate Authority. This authority decided that the teachers needed to be let go and ordered that the money they earned must be taken back.

The teachers then went to the High Court to challenge this decision, but the court sided with the State Appellate Authority. As a result, the 33 teachers have been fired, and the authority will recover their salaries.
