In Chandigarh, a Colonel’s wife cried out for justice on Friday, saying her husband and son were hurt by police officers in Punjab. Jasvinder Kaur Bath stood with her son and a family member during a press conference in Patiala. She accused twelve Punjab Police officers of beating her husband, Colonel Pushpinder Singh Bath, and their son over a parking argument. Bath asked for the case to be handed over to the CBI, which is an independent investigation agency, for a fair inquiry.

She also gave a letter to the Deputy Commissioner of Patiala explaining what happened. Bath wants the police to file a report based on her husband’s complaint and ensure all twelve accused officers are named in that report. She said the officers who have been suspended were not officially named in the case.

The incident happened late at night on March 13 and 14 while Colonel Bath and his son were eating at a roadside restaurant near Government Rajindra Hospital in Patiala. When the Colonel didn’t move his car for some police officers, they started hitting him and his son. The Colonel ended up with a broken arm while his son had a cut on his head.

Jasvinder accused Senior Superintendent of Police Nanak Singh of not helping them. She claimed he ignored their requests to file the report and caused them more stress. “For seven days, I have been trying to get help,” she said, often breaking into tears.

The Colonel, who is currently stationed in New Delhi, was shown in pictures with visible injuries. Jasvinder also mentioned that she recorded a video call where a police officer admitted to the attack. Earlier this week, the Colonel’s family met with the Punjab Governor to ask for a CBI investigation and refused to accept a different inquiry ordered by the Punjab government.

“Even if my husband and son did something wrong, they should be punished,” she added. As of Monday, the Punjab Police suspended twelve officers and started internal investigations.
