Naveen Patnaik, the leader of the Biju Janata Dal (BJD) party, has sent former MP Amar Patnaik and ex-minister Sanjay Dasburma to a meeting about changing electoral boundaries. This meeting is organized by Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin and will happen in Chennai on Saturday.
A statement from BJD says that Amar Patnaik and Sanjay Dasburma will represent the party at this important meeting. Earlier, Tamil Nadu ministers TRB Rajaa and MP Dayanidhi Maran visited Naveen Patnaik in Bhubaneswar to invite him to the meeting.
Delimitation means changing the boundaries of voting areas based on the latest census numbers. The next big update will occur after 2026. Many southern states worry they might lose political power because their populations are growing more slowly than those in northern states.
Some people in the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Odisha criticized Naveen Patnaik for joining the DMK in this meeting. Food Supplies Minister Krushna Chandra Patra said that the BJD’s decision to attend the meeting doesn’t really matter. He hinted that the party might be in trouble later. He also said that his party, BJP, is strong enough to run both the country and the state.
