Recently, former President Donald Trump shared an idea that his administration might rename a special immigration status called the “Gold Card” to the “Trump Card.” He talked about it in an interview with Fox News host Laura Ingraham.
Ingraham mentioned a type of visa known as EB-5, which lets people buy their way to a green card. She noted that someone could pay just $8,000 to get a faster path to becoming a resident without knowing English or having special skills. Many people want these visas.
Trump chimed in, saying he has a better idea with a “Trump Card” that people will love even more. The card, said to cost $5 million, would allow wealthy people to get a green card quickly. Ingraham questioned why Trump, who often claims to put America first, would let people buy citizenship.
Trump responded, saying it’s about helping the country. He suggested that selling one million of these cards could bring in $5 trillion. He claimed this money would help pay off the national debt to countries like China.
He argued that people who can spend $5 million are usually important job creators and successful businesspeople. Trump added that those who get the card but are not good people will have their card taken away and their money returned.
This “Gold Card” idea is part of a new plan to tackle illegal immigration. With this card, wealthy people could come to America and contribute by creating jobs and paying taxes.
