Rohit Sharma is back! The captain who led India to win the T20 World Cup and the ICC Champions Trophy, joined the Mumbai Indians (MI) camp on March 19, just a few days before IPL 2025 kicks off on March 22. After celebrating India’s third Champions Trophy win in Dubai, Rohit spent some quality time with his family in the Maldives before returning to India for the IPL.

He received a huge welcome from the MI team. “Mumbaicha Raja, Rohit Sharma (The King of Mumbai),” said MI’s website, showing their excitement for their star player. Rohit, known as the “HITMAN,” is ready to shine in MI’s blue and gold colors again. He has won five IPL titles as captain, making him one of the best in the league. He is also the third-highest run-scorer ever in the IPL, with 6628 runs in 257 matches.

After three tough seasons from 2021 to 2023, MI decided to change captains and chose Hardik Pandya. Despite this change, Rohit remains the heart of the team and attracts fans like no one else. MI believes his presence helps younger players learn and grow.

In their first match of IPL 2025 against the Chennai Super Kings on March 23, the team will be led by Suryakumar Yadav because Hardik Pandya is suspended for one game due to slow over-rate in the last match of 2024. Hardik, who returned to MI after leading Gujarat Titans, appreciates having experienced players to guide him.

Rohit will have a new opening partner this year named Ryan Rickelton, a talented batter from South Africa who was added to the team after Ishan Kishan left. MI also brought in other new players like Trent Boult, Will Jacks, Mitchell Santner, Deepak Chahar, and Reece Topley to make the team stronger.
