On Wednesday, President Donald Trump announced that astronauts Butch Wilmore and Sunita Williams will be visiting the White House soon after they recover from their time in space. In an interview with Fox News, Trump explained that the astronauts need some time to feel better because being in space affects their muscles due to the lack of gravity. “When you are up there, you can lift a thousand pounds easily,” he said.

Earlier that day, the White House shared on social media that President Trump fulfilled his promise to bring the astronauts back safely. They had been stuck in space for nine months and finally returned to Earth after traveling around the world 4,576 times, covering a staggering 121 million miles!

Both Wilmore and Williams had been to the space station before, so they were well-prepared for their mission. Williams even served as the space station’s commander for part of their stay.

NASA now works with SpaceX and Boeing to send astronauts to and from the space station, which is set to be replaced with private stations in the future. This means NASA can focus on new adventures to the Moon and Mars!
