Chennai – In the Tamil Nadu Assembly, Chief Minister M K Stalin promised that those responsible for the murder of retired police officer Zakhir Hussein will be caught and punished. Speaking about Hussein’s murder, which happened on March 18, 2025, Stalin said that two suspects have already surrendered at a court in Tirunelveli, and special police teams are searching for others involved.

Stalin declared, “Our government will not allow anyone to break the law. No one can run away from justice.” He also stressed that this rule applies to all cases, not just Hussein’s. He assured that everyone involved will face legal action, regardless of their status.

Opposition Leader Edappadi K Palaniswami raised concerns during the discussion, stating that Hussein, a mutawalli (a religious leader), had reported threats to his life to the Tirunelveli police three months ago. However, the police did not investigate properly. Palaniswami criticized the police for their inaction, which he believes led to Hussein’s murder.

Hussein had mentioned that a group of 20-30 people were following him and accused police officers of protecting those who threatened him. A video of Hussein talking about his fears has gone viral on social media, stirring worry in the community, especially since the murder occurred during Ramadan.

Palaniswami and other party members demanded immediate action against the police officials who failed to help Hussein and urged swift punishment for the murderers. CM Stalin revealed that Hussein had a land dispute with a man named Krishnamurthy, also known as Mohammed Thoufeeq. There were complaints back and forth between Hussein and Thoufeeq and his brother-in-law. Even after Hussein posted a video expressing his fear for his life, the police failed to prevent the murder.
