Taiwan is teaming up with the United States to strengthen their military ties, especially as China poses a greater threat. The U.S. is Taiwan’s key ally and supplier of weapons, especially now that China is increasing its military activities near the island.
In a recent report called the 2025 Quadrennial Defence Review (QDR), Taiwan announced plans to boost military cooperation with the U.S. This includes having high-level talks, observing military drills, running joint exercises, and sharing intelligence to help each other.
The report highlighted that Taiwan wants the two countries’ armed forces to work better together. This cooperation aims to improve Taiwan’s defense capabilities, focusing on areas like long-range attacks, managing conflicts, and gathering information.
Taiwan’s Defense Minister, Wellington Koo, will present this report to parliament soon. China, which still claims Taiwan as its territory, has stepped up military pressure and recently sent 59 military planes near Taiwan. In response, Taiwan called out China for being a troublemaker. Additionally, Taiwan is holding a five-day exercise to practice quickly mobilizing its forces in case of any military harassment or invasion from China.
