On Monday night, singer Jonita Gandhi hosted a fun Ask Me Anything (AMA) session on Reddit. Fans could ask her anything about her music career and singing in Bollywood movies. One surprising thing she shared was that sometimes, playback singers—those who sing songs for movies—don’t get paid for their work!
A fan asked if it’s true that singers often don’t get paid for their songs in Bollywood. Jonita confirmed, “Singers do get paid for playback singing, but unfortunately, not always. I wish this wasn’t the case but it is.”
Another fan pointed out that there aren’t enough songs written for female singers. Jonita agreed and encouraged everyone to support female artists more, saying, “We need more songs for female voices, and you can help by supporting those songs. If you like them, make them successful!”
Jonita started her Bollywood journey in 2013 with the song from Chennai Express. Recently, she sang the title track for Nadaaniyan and a Tamil song called Yedi. She has also released her own songs like Tu Jaane, Love Like That with Ali Sethi, It Is What It Is, and Always & Forever, all coming out in 2024. When asked if she might act in a movie, she playfully teased, “MAYBE lol.”
