Berhampur – The Odisha police arrested a 47-year-old rice trader from Andhra Pradesh on Sunday. He is accused of cheating a rice mill owner out of ₹77 lakh (about $93,000) five years ago.

The man, who lives in Tanuku, Andhra Pradesh, was caught near Girisola, a border area between Odisha and Andhra Pradesh. He allegedly bought rice worth ₹77 lakh from a mill owner in Pitatali, Ganjam district, but never paid for it.

According to police, he and another person assured the mill owner that they would buy rice regularly and even paid for some rice at first. However, when they bought rice on credit worth ₹77.26 lakh, they failed to pay back.

The mill owner filed a complaint with the Golanthara police station on November 6 last year. Following this, police seized documents related to the rice supply from the accused. The police have also identified the second person involved in the case and are actively looking for him.
