Guwahati – On Sunday, Union Home Minister Amit Shah held a meeting in Guwahati to talk about three new criminal laws known as BNS, BNSS, and BSA. This meeting involved chief ministers and top police officers from the northeastern states. Since President’s rule is in place in Manipur, Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla also took part.
The Office of Assam’s Chief Minister shared on social media that the meeting is focused on how these new laws are being put into action in the region. Seven state leaders from the northeast attended, along with police heads from five states. However, the police chiefs of Mizoram, Arunachal Pradesh, and Manipur did not attend.
In the meeting, each of the eight states is giving updates to Amit Shah about how they are implementing the new laws called the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, and Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam.
The meeting began with Union Home Secretary Govind Mohan speaking after Amit Shah arrived. Officials said this meeting is meant to check the work on updates related to police, prisons, courts, and forensic studies in the northeastern states.
After his speech, Shah released a book titled “New Criminal Laws: Standard Operating Procedures and Rules.” This book was made by the Assam CID and published by the Assam government.
The last update will be given by Rajeev Kumar Sharma, the Director General of the Bureau of Police Research and Development. He will bring everyone up to speed on how the three new laws are being used in the northeastern states.
After all the presentations, there will be a group discussion. Finally, Amit Shah will speak to the gathering about the three laws and share his ideas for better implementation.
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, along with CMs from Meghalaya, Nagaland, Arunachal Pradesh, Tripura, Mizoram, and Sikkim, are all attending this meeting with other senior officials. Many top officials from the central government, including the Intelligence Bureau’s Director Tapan Kumar Deka, are also present.
