A man from France named Jean-David Estele has agreed to share his lottery winnings with the thieves who stole his credit card to buy the winning ticket. This strange story began when thieves broke into Estele’s car in Toulouse on February 3. They used his credit card to buy some things at a bar, and one of those things was a lottery ticket that won a huge prize of 500,000 euros.
Estele’s lawyer, Pierre Debuisson, told reporters, “It’s incredible for both the thieves and my client. Without Estele’s credit card, they couldn’t have bought the ticket, but without the thieves, the ticket wouldn’t have been purchased.” Estele is so kind-hearted that he wants to split the winning money with the thieves, as he thinks they might be homeless and need the money.
Even though the police don’t know who the thieves are yet, Estele has asked them to come forward. His lawyer mentioned that Estele is actually happy his credit card was stolen! The lawyer said, “I hope the thieves contact us so we can make a deal that helps both them and my client.” Estele and his wife even plan to build a new house with their share of the winnings.
“This is the first time someone is so pleased to be a victim of a crime like this. I can’t believe so many people are talking about it,” the lawyer added. The lottery company in France, Française des Jeux (FDJ), said they couldn’t confirm any details because no payment request has been made yet.
