The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has chosen Sanjiv Arora, a Rajya Sabha MP, to run for the Ludhiana West assembly by-election after the seat became vacant due to the death of AAP MLA Gurpreet Bassi Gogi. This decision has led to speculation about whether Arvind Kejriwal, the AAP leader who recently lost in Delhi, might try to join Parliament.
Sanjiv Arora is an industrialist from Ludhiana and has been a Rajya Sabha member since 2022. Some BJP leaders have raised questions about this move, suggesting that it could be a way for Kejriwal to secure a spot in Parliament without directly running for election. They argue that someone from Punjab should represent the state instead of Kejriwal.
Questions have been asked about whether Arora might get a ministerial position if he wins the by-election and gives his seat to Kejriwal. AAP spokesperson Priyanka Kakkar denied these rumors, stating that Kejriwal is not looking to join the Rajya Sabha and is focused on being the national leader of AAP.
The speculations about Kejriwal entering Parliament intensified shortly after Partap Singh Bajwa from the Congress party spoke about it as a strong possibility.
