A former officer from Russia’s spy agency, the KGB, claims that U.S. President Donald Trump was groomed to be a “potential Soviet asset” over 37 years ago. According to Alnur Mussayev, who worked in the KGB’s 6th Directorate in Moscow, his job was to recruit businesspeople from capitalist countries. He alleged that Trump, who was 40 at the time, was recruited using the name ‘Krasnov’.
This claim is similar to what was described in a dossier by Christopher Steele, a former British intelligence officer, which suggested links between Trump’s 2016 campaign and Russia. Trump has denied these allegations. During the investigation led by Special Counsel Robert Mueller, it was concluded in 2019 that there was no proof of a criminal conspiracy between Trump’s campaign and Russia.
Mussayev stated, “Donald Trump is on the FSB’s hook and is swallowing the bait deeper and deeper,” suggesting that Russian authorities have some embarrassing secrets about him. He believes that Trump is “ideally recruitable” for their purposes.
Another former KGB officer, Yuri Shvets, also claimed in 2021 that Trump was “cultivated” by Russia over 40 years ago and was willing to support anti-Western ideas. Shvets compared Trump to the “Cambridge Five,” a group of British spies who shared secrets with the Soviet Union during the Cold War.
