New Delhi: The Supreme Court has turned down Indrani Mukerjea’s request to travel abroad. She is accused of killing her daughter, Sheena Bora. A group of judges told the lower court that it should finish the case within a year.
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) opposed her travel plans, saying this case is serious and the trial is already halfway done with 96 witnesses having testified. Indrani’s lawyer argued that she has already been granted bail by the Supreme Court and 92 witnesses are still left to be heard. Indrani mentioned that the lower court has not held any sessions for the past four months, suggesting that the trial may take a long time to end.
The travel issue went to the Supreme Court after a special court allowed Indrani to visit Spain and the UK for ten days. The CBI then asked the high court to challenge this decision, which resulted in the high court reversing the special court’s ruling on September 27. Indrani then took the matter to the Supreme Court, seeking to overturn the high court’s decision.
