Next week, Nir Barkat, Israel’s Minister of Economy and Industry, will lead a big business group to India. This visit is important because it aims to increase trade between Israel and India. It will be his third visit to New Delhi, and it will last for two days, starting Monday. Barkat will meet with India’s Commerce and Industry Minister, Piyush Goyal.
This visit includes more than 100 Israeli companies from different fields like healthcare, energy, cybersecurity, defense, agritech, and technology. Major chambers from both countries are involved in organizing the event, including the Israel Export Institute and Indian organizations like FICCI and CII.
During the two days, there will be a business forum, meetings between Israeli and Indian companies, and discussions among top CEOs. The Israeli group will also have a chance to join the India Energy Week happening in Delhi.
Following a time of tension, Israeli business people are hopeful that resumed flights from India and calm on the border will help improve trade. In the past, most of the trade between India and Israel focused on diamonds, but now it is growing in many other areas. There are six key areas of focus: Advanced Manufacturing; Climate & Desert Tech; Agro & Food Tech; Defense & HLS; High Tech; and Life Science & Health.
Recently, Israel has brought in thousands of workers from India, especially in construction, to help with labor shortages. With discussions about bringing more skilled workers in various fields, both countries aim to strengthen their economic partnership.
