The employability of Indian graduates has gone up a lot—from 33.95% in 2013 to 54.81% in 2024. Union Minister Mansukh Mandaviya said this is due to skill-building programs by the government. He spoke at the Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation (BIMSTEC) Youth Summit in Gandhinagar.
Mandaviya mentioned that many young people are now trained in skills like AI, robotics, and digital technology under the Skill India Scheme. This training helps them get ready for jobs in the future.
BIMSTEC includes countries like India, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Myanmar, Nepal, Sri Lanka, and Thailand. The summit aims to help young people from these countries work together and share their ideas.
He said that the BIMSTEC area is home to about 1.8 billion people, which is 22% of the global population, and has a combined GDP of $4.5 trillion. Mandaviya emphasized that BIMSTEC isn’t just about cooperation among governments but also about connecting people and empowering the youth.
The theme of the summit is “Youth Bridge for Intra-BIMSTEC Exchange.” It is designed to create opportunities for young leaders to connect and grow through business, sports, education, and technology. Mandaviya also expressed that if India gets to host the 2036 Olympics, it will boost sports in the region by attracting investment and creating training facilities.
India aims to reach a $7 trillion economy by 2030, driven by the talent and innovation of its youth. A recent report suggested that by 2030, there will be 170 million new jobs globally because of advancements in technology. The five-day youth summit organized by the Department of Youth Affairs is focused on helping young people from different countries share ideas and create positive changes.
