Basavaraj Bommai, a member of the BJP and former chief minister of Karnataka, has shared his worries about disagreements within the state’s BJP group. He described this situation as unfortunate because there’s a growing push by some party members to replace the current party president, BY Vijayendra. The BJP’s top leaders have firmly turned down this request.
Recently, BJP MLA Ramesh Jarkiholi claimed that some rebels met with the national party president, JP Nadda. However, the party leadership corrected him for giving false information to the media. Bommai expressed his belief that the leaders in charge will quickly address the issues in the Karnataka BJP and talk to everyone involved to make the right decisions.
He highlighted the problems in Karnataka under the Congress party, mentioning that people, farmers, and women are suffering due to poor governance, which has led to increased violence and suicides. Bommai said it is regrettable that the BJP is facing internal conflicts instead of standing united against these problems.
Even though Bommai distanced himself from the rebel group and insisted he wouldn’t support efforts to change Vijayendra, these rebels tried to include him in their plans. They sought help from influential leaders in the Lingayat and Veerashaiva communities and planned a meeting at Union minister V Somanna’s home on February 10 to discuss strategies. However, Bommai declined to support them, stating he would follow the party’s decisions.
He emphasized that it’s crucial for the party to stay united. “I am trying to help everyone come together. We should discuss this issue calmly, guided by senior leaders like former chief minister BS Yediyurappa. If not, we must respect the party’s choices,” he said.
The rebel group’s demands to replace Vijayendra have faced a significant setback. The national leadership has not only ignored their complaints but also expressed dissatisfaction with their actions. They were hoping to meet with key national figures but left empty-handed. Some members, disheartened by the outcome, decided to attend the Maha Kumbh Mela in Prayagraj instead of returning to Karnataka.
Moreover, BJP MLA Suresh Gowda publicly supported Vijayendra, saying he has been doing a great job leading the party. He called for action against those trying to create problems within the party. “Vijayendra has been leading well. Criticizing former chief minister Yediyurappa is not right. Party leaders should voice their concerns privately, not in public,” Gowda stated.
