Ajith Kumar is back on the big screen after two years with his new movie, Vidaamuyarchi, which premiered in theaters on February 6. Directed by Magizh Thirumeni, this film is based on the 1997 American movie, Breakdown. Fans who watched early screenings shared their thoughts on X (formerly Twitter).
Many viewers mentioned that Vidaamuyarchi stands out from typical Tamil mass action films. One fan praised Ajith and the director for making something new: “A big shout out to Ajith and Magizh! The actors were amazing, and the movie looked beautiful. I’m curious how fans will feel since it’s different from the usual star films.”
Described as a slow-burn action thriller, some fans compared it to Western movies. “Thanks, Thala! ❤️ This is a classy, Hollywood-style slow-burn action film!” commented one viewer. Another mentioned how Vidaamuyarchi sets itself apart from popular Indian films like RRR and Pushpa. “Indian cinema at its best! I thought we could only make movies like those. This is a brilliant and enlightening film!” they said after watching it in LA.
Many praised director Magizh Thirumeni for using Ajith’s acting skills wisely in a different kind of role, away from regular high-action movies. One viewer noted, “Even with some issues, Vidaamuyarchi shows Magizh understands Ajith’s strengths as an action hero.”
In this film, Ajith plays Arjun, a former cop living in Azerbaijan with his wife, Kayal. Their relationship faces problems, and things get worse when Kayal is kidnapped by gangsters, forcing Arjun to confront them. The movie also stars Trisha Krishnan, Arjun Sarja, and Regena Cassandra.
