Johnny Depp’s lawyer, Benjamin Chew, spoke about the recent legal issues involving Justin Baldoni and his co-star Blake Lively. In an interview on a show called Law&Crime Sidebar, he described Baldoni’s way of handling the situation as “very aggressive.”
Baldoni launched a website that includes his updated legal complaint and a timeline of important events related to the case. Chew mentioned, “I think it is very impressive.” He pointed out that normally, lawyers wouldn’t do something like this before a big court hearing, but Baldoni must have carefully checked everything before posting it online.
The website shows text messages and emails between Baldoni, Lively, and her husband, Ryan Reynolds. Chew said it’s okay to share these legal documents since they are public records. However, he warned that if they start sharing too much personal work or opinions, it might go too far.
Chew called Baldoni’s approach “bold” and “novel.” When asked how this case compares to the Depp vs. Heard case, he said, “Both sides might risk losing the jury’s interest. The jurors might not care as much as they did in Depp’s case.” He didn’t pick a side between Baldoni and Lively but stated, “If they use audiotapes and videotapes, that could be very powerful evidence. Everyone can see it, and it’s stronger than just what lawyers say.”
