West Bengal’s Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee announced that the Deocha-Pachami coal block, the largest in India, will start operations on Thursday. Speaking at the 8th Bengal Global Business Summit, she mentioned that this coal block holds 1,240 million tonnes of coal and 2,600 million tonnes of Basalt.

Banerjee promised that this project would solve power issues for the next 100 years. It will create over 100,000 jobs and help more industries grow, providing even more employment opportunities.

She also introduced a new state-level investment committee, led by the chief secretary, to help businesses get approvals faster. This committee will meet every two weeks to keep everything on track.

The two-day summit in New Town saw many prominent guests, including Mukesh Ambani from Reliance Industries. Ambani shared that Reliance will double its investment in West Bengal, which has grown from less than ₹2,000 crore in 2016 to over ₹50,000 crore today.

He believes that states like West Bengal and Jharkhand can work together to attract more investments. Bhutan’s agriculture minister, Younten Phuntsho, attended the summit, taking the place of Prime Minister Tshering Tobgay, who could not make it.
