On February 5, 2023, in Washington D.C., Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu thanked former President Donald Trump for inviting him to be the first foreign leader to visit during Trump’s second term. Netanyahu said, “You are the greatest friend Israel has ever had at the White House,” highlighting Trump’s strong support for Israel and the Jewish people.

During a press conference, Netanyahu talked about Israel’s security, stating that “Israel has never been stronger and Iran’s influence has never been weaker.” However, he stressed the importance of completing their goals to ensure peace in the region.

When discussing Gaza, Netanyahu shared three main goals for Israel:

1. To destroy Hamas’s military.
2. To secure the release of all Israeli hostages.
3. To make sure Gaza no longer poses a threat to Israel.

He emphasized that in order to achieve peace, they need to complete these tasks. Netanyahu had arrived in the U.S. on Sunday to discuss a ceasefire agreement for Gaza and hopes for the Middle East with Trump. He landed at Andrews Air Force Base, Maryland, where Israeli flags surrounded the area. Netanyahu is also expected to meet with U.S. military leaders and Congress members during his visit.
