Boman Irani started taking photos in his 30s, became an actor at 43, and is now directing his first movie at 65. His new film, The Mehta Boys, is coming to Amazon Prime Video this week. Boman doesn’t follow the usual timeline for a career; he does things his own way.
The Story of The Mehta Boys
The Mehta Boys tells a touching story about a father and son who don’t see eye to eye but have to spend time together in unexpected situations. Boman believes this film connects deeply with the audience because many people will relate to it. He says, “They’ll think, ‘that’s my dad, that’s my uncle, or that’s how my brother and dad act.’”
Boman’s life has been shaped by his own experiences. He lost his father when he was just six months old. Even though he never knew him, he created a film around the father-son relationship. He says with a laugh, “I never met my father; maybe I feel a void inside me. I’m not trying to be deep; I just felt drawn to this story.”
Making It Personal
When asked what makes this film special for him, Boman responds, “Even if a filmmaker like David Fincher makes a thriller, it still needs to feel personal.” He believes that if a story is relatable, it becomes easier for audiences to connect with it.
Boman shared that he gathered many real-life experiences for the father-son dynamics in the film, saying, “I did a lot of interviews to understand this kind of relationship.”
The movie stars Boman Irani and Avinash Tiwary, alongside Shreya Chaudhry and Puja Sarup. The Mehta Boys will be available on Amazon Prime Video starting February 7.
