The Press Gallery Committee of the Punjab Vidhan Sabha has sent a letter to the Chief Election Commissioner. They are upset about how Delhi Police treated journalists in Delhi. The Committee says that police were not behaving properly.

The letter explains that journalists from Punjab go to other states to report on elections so people in Punjab stay informed. Recently, around 20 journalists were in Delhi to cover the elections. They heard news that some people were trying to cheat during the elections by giving out alcohol and other items. When these journalists tried to report this wrongdoing, they were mistreated by workers of a political party.

Concerned for their safety, the journalists called the Delhi Police for help, but instead of receiving help, they were treated badly by the police. The Committee points out that five journalists were wrongfully detained overnight at Tughlaq Police Station. This included a well-respected member of the Punjab Assembly Press Gallery Committee.

The Punjab Assembly Press Gallery Committee is very angry about the police’s actions. They are protesting and asking for action to be taken against the police officers involved in the mistreatment of the journalists.

Recently, there have also been arguments between the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) over a raid at Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann’s residence in Delhi. AAP believes some actions were unfair, while the Election Commission said the raid happened after a complaint about money distribution.

The Delhi Assembly elections are set for February 5, with counting on February 8. There will be a tough competition between the BJP, Congress, and AAP in the capital.
