BJP MP Sambit Patra has strongly criticized Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal for how he manages the city’s water supply. Patra accused Kejriwal of benefiting from water distribution groups that operate illegally. Speaking in Bijwasan, he questioned whether the people living there aren’t citizens who deserve clean drinking water.
Patra highlighted that many residents are being forced to buy water from these illegal groups. He expressed confusion about why this is happening, suggesting that Kejriwal is making money while citizens struggle to access good water. “Kejriwal is earning crores from these illegal water networks,” he claimed. Patra pointed out that the presence of private water meters is a sign that illegal activities are happening.
He compared Delhi’s water issue to the famous canals in Venice, saying, “In Venice, the water flows below us, but here in Delhi, it flows above our heads.” Patra also discredited Kejriwal’s promise of free water, saying, “People are saying they have to pay for water, while Kejriwal claims it is free.” He emphasized that a network of water mafias is profiting from this situation.
Patra criticized the overall quality of the water in Delhi, mentioning, “I’ve never seen anything like this. In such a large area, people have no access to safe drinking water.” He referenced a study showing that all legislative areas in Delhi receive dirty water.
Lastly, Patra challenged Kejriwal’s accountability, asking who he would blame next for the water crisis. He sarcastically suggested that Kejriwal might blame neighboring states like Haryana or Punjab. “The AAP party and Arvind Kejriwal are responsible for this mess,” he stated.
The campaigning for the Delhi Assembly elections ends on Monday, with polling taking place on Wednesday and results to be announced on February 8.
