Jeff Bezos, the founder of Amazon, and his fiancée Lauren Sanchez were recently spotted enjoying their vacation in Montserrat, a small Caribbean island. Many locals started to worry when they saw the couple because they thought they might be there for business reasons, possibly to buy land.
Bezos arrived on his luxury yacht named ‘Koru,’ which is worth around $500 million. During their trip, they stopped at other lovely places like St. Kitts & Nevis and St. Barts. After observing the couple, the people in Montserrat began to discuss their concerns.
To ease the local people’s worries, Montserrat’s Prime Minister Reuben Meade held a town meeting. He explained that Bezos was only visiting as a tourist, and emphasized that he cannot buy land in Montserrat without special permission. This means that if Bezos wanted to buy property, he would need to ask the government first. The Prime Minister assured everyone that they would be informed if any business was happening.
Meade also mentioned that they should be grateful that Bezos was spending money in their island, thanking him for his visit. Some locals expressed their thoughts on social media, sharing pictures of the large yacht and discussing their feelings about Bezos being there. While some were concerned about land issues, others saw this as a chance to improve the island, suggesting that Bezos could help with local projects.
