A tragic accident happened on January 31 when a small medevac jet crashed in Philadelphia, killing six people, including a young girl who was heading home to Mexico. This girl had just received important medical treatment in the United States and was on her way back to Tijuana with her mother, who is a doctor.
The Learjet 55 took off from Northeast Philadelphia Airport and crashed less than a minute later while flying to Springfield in Missouri. Shai Gold, a spokesman for Jet Rescue Air Ambulance, shared that the girl was sponsored by a charity for her life-saving treatment. Unfortunately, despite her bravery and efforts to survive, she lost her life in this accident.
The girl was treated at Shriners Children’s Philadelphia, which confirmed her passing and expressed their sadness over the tragic event. They mentioned that due to privacy reasons, they cannot share more details about her or her family.
Witnesses reported seeing a huge explosion when the plane went down. One person described it as “Earthquakish,” saying the sky brightened up and the scene looked terrible. Philly’s Mayor, Cherelle Parker, announced that the crash occurred in a neighborhood about three miles from the airport. City Councilman Mike Driscoll mentioned that there were “mass casualties” and that the focus is now on helping the first responders and the affected families.
