On Friday, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin criticized Governor R.N. Ravi, saying he is always against the state government. The Chief Minister explained that Ravi often makes complaints about the government, not just on a few topics but many. Recently, Ravi had problems with the Chief Minister about Gandhi memorial events at a museum and his request to have the UGC chairman’s representative in search committees for choosing new vice-chancellors for state universities.
After checking on a development project in North Chennai, CM Stalin said it’s good for the state when the Governor takes a stand against the government, and he encouraged Ravi to keep it up. Regarding the vice-chancellor appointments, Stalin mentioned they have taken this issue to the Supreme Court, which will hear it on February 4. Previously, Governor Ravi asked the government to withdraw its search committee for the Madurai Kamaraj University vice-chancellor, claiming they left out the UGC chairman’s representative. He suggested that the government should accept the committee he formed that includes the UGC representative.
When asked about criticism of the famous rationalist leader E.V. Ramasamy, known as Periyar, CM Stalin stated, “Periyar is our leader and he is the leader for everyone.” He said he would not respect those who spoke badly about Periyar. Answering questions about safety and security in the state, CM Stalin mentioned that some small incidents were being exaggerated. He assured that law and order were good and the ongoing investments in the state showed this.
