Former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, who leads the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), criticized the Election Commission for rejecting his claims about the Yamuna River being poisoned. Kejriwal accused the Election Commission of playing politics by sending him a notice about his statements. He claimed that Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar is looking for a job after retiring. Kejriwal said, “The Election Commission doesn’t notice money being given out in the streets of Delhi or blankets being distributed to people.” He warned Kumar that history would remember his actions poorly.
Kejriwal also mentioned that harmful water is coming through the Yamuna and that the ammonia levels they found in the river are dangerous. He stated that when they reported the ammonia levels, they dropped suspiciously, indicating that someone is tampering with the water. He pledged to protect Delhi residents from drinking this toxic water and promised that he would stand by them.
Earlier, the Election Commission had asked Kejriwal not to mix the issue of ammonia in the Yamuna with his serious claims about poisoning the river. They requested he provide clear evidence by Friday on the type of poisoning, how it’s happening, and who is responsible. The Commission reminded everyone that clean water is a matter that governments should prioritize, especially during the election period when rules and agreements are already in place.
The elections in Delhi are set for February 5, with results to be announced on February 8.
