Gurgaon Police are making it easier to handle traffic rules! From now on, they will send online fines (called challans) for vehicles that don’t have a valid Pollution Under Control (PUC) certificate or car insurance. Before this, police could only issue fines when they stopped drivers in person.

With new technology, police can now use cameras to check if a car has the right documents. If your pollution certificate is out of date, you will get a fine of ₹10,000. If your insurance has lapsed, the fine will be ₹2,000. According to Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Virendra Vij, the system is all set to catch everyone who doesn’t follow the rules.

This new system started on Wednesday. Since 2019, online traffic fines have been given in Gurgaon, but back then, only a few places were covered by cameras. Now, there are 10,000 CCTV cameras in the city that can check for traffic violations. Many of these cameras can even see if drivers aren’t wearing helmets or seat belts.

Last year, Gurgaon police issued 1.36 million fines totaling ₹15.1 crore for rule-breaking. The most fines were given for not wearing helmets (210,000), driving on the wrong side (170,000), and illegal parking (150,000). Now, it’s more important than ever to make sure you have all your documents in order when driving!
