unfair deals with india will be discussed says bangladeshs home affairs adviser

On Wednesday, Lt Gen (Retd) Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury, an adviser to Bangladesh’s interim government, spoke about important talks with India regarding agreements made during the time of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. He mentioned that these agreements were unfair and need to be discussed.

Chowdhury held a press conference before a border conference with leaders from India’s Border Security Force (BSF) and Bangladesh’s Border Guard. He raised concerns about Indian people in border areas making and smuggling drugs like Phensedyl into Bangladesh, claiming that while they say it’s a medicine, it is really a narcotic.

He emphasized that any work near the border, like building a mosque or temple, must have permission from both Bangladesh and India. This is to ensure clear communication and cooperation.

During the upcoming conference, Chowdhury said they will talk about stopping the killing of unarmed Bangladeshi citizens at the border. He also mentioned that they will address cases where Bangladeshi people have been taken or held by the BSF or Indian nationals.

Furthermore, they will focus on preventing illegal activities at the border, including smuggling drugs, weapons, and explosives from India into Bangladesh. Another important topic for discussion will be the fair sharing of river water along the Bangladesh-India border and making sure existing water agreements are followed, as well as reopening the Rahimpur canal.
