On Tuesday, Shahid Sayeed, who is the Convener of the Muslim Rashtriya Manch (MRM), expressed his happiness over the approval of the Waqf Amendment Bill 2024. He believes this bill is a big step towards helping underprivileged communities. Sayeed stated that this bill will help meet basic needs while empowering weaker sections. Instead of only being used for religious purposes, Waqf properties can now support education, healthcare, and jobs.
Shalini Ali, Chief of the Women’s Wing at MRM, praised the bill for promoting transparency and accountability in managing Waqf properties. She highlighted that this approval would encourage more women to get involved in community development.
Shahid Akhtar, another important MRM member, called the Waqf Amendment Bill a “landmark step” for social equality and a “new beginning” for society.
The Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) has also approved the Waqf Bill 1995, making 25 amendments across 14 sections. JPC Chairman Jagdambika Pal mentioned that a meeting in Delhi will take place to finalize the bill. He assured that all discussions were transparent and involved every voice.
The goal of the Waqf Bill is to improve how state waqf boards manage their powers, survey Waqf properties, and remove illegal occupations.
To raise awareness, MRM has organized over 1,000 programs nationwide about the bill’s importance, with 250 representatives presenting their thoughts to the JPC.
