Patanjali Foods Ltd. has taken back 4 tonnes of red chilli powder from stores because of safety issues, following a notice from the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI). The FSSAI found that this batch of red chilli powder did not meet the safety rules regarding pesticide levels.

Patanjali’s CEO, Sanjeev Asthana, explained that they had to recall a small batch of 200-gram packets because tests showed it had too many pesticide residues. The FSSAI sets limits for these chemicals in food products to keep consumers safe.

Asthana said the company is quickly letting its partners know about this recall and has also published ads to inform customers who might have bought the product. He urged any customers who have the recalled chilli powder to return it where they bought it to receive a full refund. He emphasized that the amount being recalled is small and manageable.

To make sure this doesn’t happen again, Patanjali Foods is reviewing its suppliers and putting better quality checks in place to follow FSSAI rules. “We are committed to maintaining high quality in all our products and ensuring our supply chain follows safety regulations,” Asthana assured.

The FSSAI announced this recall on January 13. They instructed Patanjali Foods to take back the batch of red chilli powder (Batch No. AJD2400012) due to issues with food safety standards.
