India’s T20I captain, Suryakumar Yadav, spoke on Tuesday about being left out of the Champions Trophy team. He said he understands and accepts this decision, but it still hurts because he hasn’t played well in One Day Internationals (ODIs). Suryakumar congratulated the players who made it into the 15-member squad and said they deserve to be there.

Even though he wasn’t picked for the Champions Trophy, he is excited to lead the Indian team in a five-match T20 series against England, starting in Kolkata on Wednesday. Suryakumar is known for his powerful batting in T20 cricket, but he has struggled in ODIs, scoring only 773 runs in 37 matches with an average of 25.76.

When asked how he felt about not being part of the Champions Trophy, Suryakumar said, “It doesn’t hurt me that much. If I had played better, I would have been selected. It’s essential to accept this.” He also mentioned the Champions Trophy squad looks great and praised the performance of the selected players.

Suryakumar did admit that it hurts to think about his own performance. He said, “It hurts to know I haven’t done well. If I had, I would be in the squad. The players who deserve it should be there.”

He also talked about Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Shami, saying they are a strong bowling pair when fit. Bumrah has been out of action due to back problems and won’t be available for the T20 series or the ODIs against England. Suryakumar looks forward to seeing them bowl together again, much like they did in the 2023 ODI World Cup.
