Prince Harry is going to court against Rupert Murdoch’s newspaper group to discuss serious claims about how journalists collected information illegally. Harry and a former politician named Tom Watson have accused the newspapers, the Sun and the now-closed News of the World, of breaking the law from 1996 to 2011.

This trial was supposed to start on Tuesday but has been delayed because both sides are trying to work out a last-minute deal. The judge, Timothy Fancourt, seemed frustrated about the delay, saying they’ve had enough time to reach an agreement.

Lawyers representing the newspapers mentioned there have been “very intense discussions” in the past few days. Prince Harry, who lives in California, has faced challenges because of time differences when talking to his legal team.

Harry filed this lawsuit in 2019, among other claims against British newspapers. Over the years, the newspaper group has already paid a lot of money—hundreds of millions—to people affected by illegal activities, including phone tapping. However, they deny that any illegal actions were done at the Sun or that top officials knew anything about it.

Prince Harry aims not to get money from this but rather to uncover the truth behind the actions of the newspapers. If the trial goes ahead, it will first talk about general issues like the level of phone tapping and then focus on Harry’s and Watson’s specific cases, with Harry expected to testify next month.
