External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar was honored to represent India at Donald Trump’s inauguration ceremony as the 47th President of the United States. He attended the event in Washington, D.C., as a special envoy from Prime Minister Narendra Modi, carrying an important letter for Trump. Jaishankar sat in the front row with other world leaders, which showed how important the event was.
He shared his feelings on the social media platform X, saying he was “privileged” to be there. It is common for India to send special envoys to such big ceremonies for world leaders.
During the event, Trump took his oath with the help of Chief Justice John Roberts. Afterward, he proclaimed that this marked the start of America’s “golden age,” calling it ‘Liberation Day.’
Shortly after being inaugurated, Trump signed eight executive orders, which reversed many decisions made by the previous President, Joe Biden. He also decided to pull the US out of the Paris Climate Agreement, pardoned 1,500 people involved in the January 6, 2021, Capitol riot, and allowed TikTok to continue operating in the US for 75 more days.
