Guwahati: Assam’s Chief Minister, Himanta Biswa Sarma, shared an exciting vision in South Korea. He believes that if Assam could support car manufacturing, it would greatly improve the lives and economy of people in the Northeastern region of India. During his meetings with South Korean auto industry leaders, he promised that the Assam government would provide full support to any companies that decide to set up there.
Sarma pointed out that with easy access to India’s large $100 billion car industry and nearby markets in Southeast Asia, Assam can offer amazing opportunities for business. During a meeting with KOTRA, South Korea’s trade agency, he also highlighted Assam’s beautiful tourist spots and plans to build a semiconductor production hub. This is to complement a large chip manufacturing unit coming to Jagiroad.
Today, he had great talks with Kyungsung Kang, the head of KOTRA, to find ways for Assam and Korean businesses to work together and grow. Sarma emphasized that Assam has three key strengths: its location, strategic importance, and supportive policies. He noted that Assam and the Northeast are very important to the Indian government, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Sarma invited Korean businesses to come to Assam, mentioning that Assam boasts three UNESCO World Heritage Sites, making it a great place for both work and tourism. He kicked off his day in Seoul by speaking to over 140 business leaders at an Advantage Assam event organized by the Indian Chamber of Commerce in South Korea. The excitement from these Korean businesses about the “Advantage Assam 2” program was amazing. They are eager to invest because India is now known as the world’s fastest-growing major economy.
The Advantage Assam event is set to happen on February 25-26, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi as the chief guest.
