A tragic accident in North Goa resulted in the deaths of a woman tourist and her paragliding instructor, according to police reports from PTI. This incident comes just a day after two tourists lost their lives in separate paragliding accidents in Himachal Pradesh.
In one accident, a woman named Bhavsar Khushi from Ahmedabad, Gujarat, was paragliding in tandem when she fell during take-off at the Indrunag paragliding site near Dharamshala. Unfortunately, the instructor also fell and was hurt, needing treatment at Tanda Medical College.
In another incident in Kullu district, a 28-year-old tourist from Tamil Nadu named Jayash Ram died after a mid-air collision while paragliding. The paraglider he was in hit another one while they were flying about 100 feet off the ground. While Jayash sadly passed away, his instructor suffered serious injuries and was taken to PGI Chandigarh for care.
Police have registered cases against the paragliding operators for their negligence in both situations, stating that the two sections of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita might apply: section 125 (endangering life) and section 106 (causing death by negligence).
This isn’t the first incident either; just last January, a tourist from Andhra Pradesh died while paragliding in Kullu, leading to a temporary closure of the paragliding site. Investigations revealed that the operator hadn’t followed the safety rules, leading to the cancellation of his license.
