Sanjita Mohapatra’s story is one of courage and determination. Born in Rourkela, Odisha, she faced many challenges growing up in a poor family. Her mother was disappointed when Sanjita was born because she wanted a boy after having an older daughter. Although her family almost gave up on her, Sanjita’s older sister insisted that they keep her.

Despite their financial struggles, Sanjita never lost hope. She got support from teachers, social groups, and scholarships to pursue her education. After studying hard, she earned a degree in mechanical engineering and started working as an assistant manager at the Steel Authority of India. With her job, she helped her family build a house in their village, making her parents proud.

Sanjita always dreamed of becoming an IAS officer. With the encouragement of her husband, she worked hard and passed the UPSC exam on her fifth try in 2019. Now, as the Chief Executive Officer of Amravati Zilla Parishad in Maharashtra, she is focused on helping women in self-help groups and improving the education in local schools. She is also working on making unique products from these groups more popular through better branding, packaging, and launches
