A serious illness has been causing many deaths in Rajouri district, Jammu and Kashmir. Another person died on Sunday, bringing the total number of deaths to 17. On Saturday, Union Home Minister Amit Shah ordered an expert team to investigate what is happening in a small village called Badhaal.
Yasmeen Kousar, the last child of Mohd Aslam, passed away while being treated at SMGS Hospital in Jammu. Just last week, her five siblings and grandparents also died. Additionally, nine other people from two connected families lost their lives between December 7 and December 12.
The Jammu and Kashmir health department looked into these deaths but hasn’t figured out the exact cause yet. Lt Governor Manoj Sinha shared this information with reporters. He mentioned that the police have created a special team to look into other possible reasons behind the situation.
The 16-member expert team reached the district and is expected to visit the village soon to help the victims. Some of the best experts in the country have joined this team to figure out why these deaths are happening. The sick people reported having fever, body pain, nausea, and loss of consciousness, often dying just days after being hospitalized.
Earlier, a spokesperson from the Jammu and Kashmir government said tests showed that the deaths were not caused by a contagious disease, like one caused by bacteria or viruses. Thus, there seems to be no public health threat.
