The Supreme Court is set to hear a case this coming Monday about a family matter involving a boy whose father, Atul Subhash, tragically died by suicide in December 2023. The father’s mother, Anju Devi, wants to get custody of her four-year-old grandson. She claims that her daughter-in-law, Nikita Singhania, is not allowing her to see the child.

In a previous court ruling, the Supreme Court said Anju Devi was a stranger to the child, which made it hard for her to gain custody. Atul, 34, was found hanging in his Bengaluru home, and he left behind notes blaming his wife and her family for his death.

When the case was discussed before, Nikita’s lawyer said that the child is currently living in a boarding school in Haryana. Anju’s lawyer argued that a child under six years shouldn’t be away at boarding school and showed photos of Anju with the boy when he was younger. The court instructed that the child should be brought to the next hearing so they could see him in person and promised not to decide based on media stories.

Recently, a Bengaluru court allowed bail for Nikita, her mother Nisha, and her brother Anurag, who were accused of pushing Atul to take his own life.
