Cristiano Ronaldo and his team, Al Nassr, felt disappointed after they played to a 1-1 draw against Al Taawoun in their Saudi Pro League match on Friday, held in Buraidah. The game, which was tough for Ronaldo’s team, turned around thanks to a former Manchester City player, Aymeric Laporte, who scored a goal in the second half.
The match started with Al Taawoun taking the lead when Saad Fahad Al Nasser scored just before half-time, making it 1-0. Al Taawoun had a chance to double their score, but Musa Barrow’s shot was saved by the goalkeeper. Al Nassr pushed hard for an equalizer and finally succeeded in the 64th minute when Angelo Gabriel passed the ball to Laporte, who scored with a header.
In this game, Ronaldo faced some jeers from fans who chanted the name of his rival, Lionel Messi. Usually, such chants annoy him, but this time he calmly smiled and gave a thumbs-up instead.
Al Nassr is now falling behind in the league race, currently sitting in fourth place with 29 points from 15 matches. They trail league leaders Al Hilal, who have 40 points. Ronaldo and Messi have been rivals for over a decade, both having scored more than 800 goals in their careers for club and country, making their rivalry famous, much like other famous sports rivalries.
