On Thursday morning, two commandos from the CRPF’s CoBRA unit got hurt when an improvised explosive device (IED) went off in Bijapur district, Chhattisgarh. This happened in the Basaguda area while they were on a mission to patrol the region.

The commandos, Mridul Barman and Mohd Ishaq, were part of a team from the 229th and 206th battalions of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF). While they were out in the jungle, they accidentally triggered the pressure IED, causing the explosion that injured them.

Fortunately, both commandos were rescued and taken to the CRPF camp in Basaguda for immediate medical help. They are now safe and have been sent to a hospital in Raipur for further treatment.

In the Bastar region, where Bijapur is located, Maoists often plant IEDs along roads to target security forces during patrols. This dangerous practice has put many lives at risk. Recently, civilians have also been hurt in similar blasts.

Earlier this month, a young girl was injured in Sukma district, and two police officers were hurt in Bijapur by IED explosions. Just a few days before that, a villager lost his life from an IED blast in Narayanpur district. Sadly, on January 6, Naxalites used an IED to destroy a vehicle, resulting in the deaths of eight police officers and their driver.
