As the Maha Kumbh festival takes place in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh, many people are coming together at the holy meeting point called Sangam to experience the spiritual excitement. Among the many attractions are special seers and saints practicing unique rituals. Some of these include Chhotu Baba, Chabhi Wale Baba, Bavander Baba, and Splendor Baba. Then there’s ‘Kaante Wale Baba,’ whose real name is Ramesh Kumar Manjhi. He has become a popular figure among the visitors.
Kaante Wale Baba impresses everyone by lying on a bed of thorns! He explains that he does this to honor his spiritual teacher, or guru, who gave him knowledge and strength. He feels it’s all thanks to God that he can do this. “I’ve been lying on thorns for about 40-50 years,” he said. Surprisingly, he says it doesn’t hurt him at all. He gives away half of the money he receives as donations and keeps the rest to cover his costs.
