The Uttar Pradesh government has launched mobile labs to check food safety at the Maha Kumbh Mela, a huge religious gathering. Assistant Food Commissioner Sushil Kumar Singh said these “Food Safety on Wheels” labs will help stop spoiled or bad food from reaching pilgrims. The mobile labs test food and drinks right on the spot.
Food safety officers are checking hotels, roadside eateries, and food stalls regularly. They respond quickly to any food safety complaints to keep everyone safe and healthy. Under Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s leadership, the government is working hard to provide clean and safe food for the millions of people attending the Mela.
The fair area is split into five zones with 25 sectors. Each sector has food safety officers who keep an eye on hygiene and safety standards. All operations are managed from a central office on Sankat Mochan Marg in Sector 24. There are dedicated teams for checking food safety across the entire fair, and chief officers oversee groups of five sectors.
On the first day of the Maha Kumbh, around 1.75 crore devotees visited Triveni Sangam. The following day, the number rose to 3.5 crore, especially during Makar Sankranti. The government expects around 40 to 45 crores of pilgrims and visitors over the next six weeks until February 26, making it the largest spiritual gathering on Earth.
