The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has sent a warning letter to Vinay Dube, the CEO of Akasa Air, reminding him to follow all rules carefully to avoid problems. Akasa Air has not yet commented on this warning.
This situation is about an incident that happened during a DGCA audit on October 10 last year in Mumbai. They found that, on March 1, during flight QP 1851 from Bagdogra to Bengaluru, the plane landed hard—meaning it didn’t touch down smoothly.
In the warning letter from January 13, which was seen by HT, it was pointed out that Akasa Air ended their investigation of this serious incident with just a counseling session for the pilot, without giving proper training.
The DGCA also mentioned that they issued a show cause notice to the airline’s Head of Training on November 26, and the response received on December 16 was not satisfactory. They noted that Akasa Air took longer than six months to update their Operations Manual, which is seen as a failure on the part of the Director of Flight Operations to meet important rules.
The warning read: “It has been observed that the Director of Flight Operations at Akasa Air did not ensure that the Civil Aviation rules were followed.” Additionally, both the Head of Operations and Head of Training were suspended as stated in a letter dated December 27, 2024.
The letter ended with a clear message: “The CEO of Akasa Air is warned to follow all Civil Aviation rules strictly to avoid such issues in the future.”
