Sharad Pawar, the leader of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), recently said that the opposition alliance known as the INDIA bloc is only meant for national elections, not for local or state elections. This statement raised questions about the future of the alliance. Pawar explained that they have not discussed working together for local elections, and in the next 8-10 days, they will decide whether the parties will team up or run alone in the upcoming municipal elections in Maharashtra.

This comes after the Uddhav Thackeray-led Shiv Sena (UBT) announced that they will contest local elections by themselves. Sanjay Raut from Shiv Sena (UBT) mentioned that there are not enough chances for members of different parties to grow under the alliance, which is why they are choosing to go solo.

Additionally, the Shiv Sena (UBT) had recently supported Arvind Kejriwal’s Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) for the Delhi assembly elections. A Congress member said that the decision about whether they will participate in local elections will come from the party’s central leaders.

Pawar stated that the Shiv Sena’s choice might affect the chances of all parties involved in the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) coalition, which includes the Shiv Sena (UBT), Congress, and NCP (SP). Raut insisted that the INDIA bloc is only for national elections, and local elections should aim to support individual party members and foster their growth. He clarified that he never suggested disbanding the INDIA bloc
