Laurene Powell Jobs, a famous American businesswoman and the widow of Steve Jobs, is exploring the Kumbh Mela in Prayagraj, India, one of the biggest gatherings of people in the world. She arrived on Saturday night with her team of 40 people and started visiting the festival on Sunday afternoon.
Spiritual leader Swami Kailashanand Giri mentioned that Laurene is currently at his camp, or ‘shivir.’ This is her first time in such a busy place, and she has developed some allergies. He described her as a simple person who is eager to learn about Indian traditions.
On Tuesday, many devotees participated in the holy ritual of taking a dip at the Triveni Sangam, which is a special event called Makar Sankranti. This festival celebrates the sun moving from the southern part to the northern part of the sky.
According to a recent announcement, the first groups to take the holy dip will be from two major Akharas, which are special spiritual teams. Acharya Mahamandaleshwar Swami Avdheshanand from the Juna Akhara explained that seven Shaivite Akharas will go first, followed by three Vaishnavite Akhadas, and then the rest.
The Maha Kumbh is an incredibly important religious event held every 12 years at four different spots in India. The next Maha Kumbh, known as Poorna Kumbh, will happen until February 26, 2025. Important dates to remember for the holy dips include January 14 (Makar Sankranti), January 29 (Mauni Amavasya), February 3 (Basant Panchami), February 12 (Maghi Purnima), and February 26 (Maha Shivaratri).
