Delhi police have caught a man who was part of a gang making threatening phone calls to people for money from Dubai and Malaysia. This gang, run by imprisoned gangster Dinesh Karala, aimed at business owners in Delhi and nearby areas, asking for large amounts of money.

The suspect, Sitender Kumar, who lives in Jhajjar, Haryana, was arrested when he returned to Delhi after traveling through Dubai and Mumbai. He is wanted in three cases related to extortion. Police say that Kumar and his partner, Ajay (who is still in Dubai), made calls using foreign phone numbers to avoid being caught.

“They called business owners in Delhi and the NCR from Malaysia and Dubai, asking for crores of rupees. They even targeted an NRI businessman in Dubai and threatened his relatives in Ghaziabad by shooting at their house,” explained Additional Commissioner of Police Sanjay Bhatia.

To put more pressure on victims, the gang fired shots at the homes of their targets’ relatives. Kumar is connected to three different extortion cases, according to Special Commissioner of Police (Crime) Devesh Shrivasta. They used fake mobile phones and SIM cards to hide their identities.

Dinesh Karala, who is currently in jail for the murder of singer Harshita Dahiya, took over this gang after another gangster, Jitender Mann (also known as Gogi), was killed in 2021. Despite being in jail, Karala is still in charge of the gang, targeting various businesses and bringing in new members. Police are now looking for Ajay and other gang members, along with investigating where they got the fake SIM cards.
