The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has warned that Delhi is going to be very cold, with rain expected in some areas on Monday. There will also be a lot of fog in Delhi and nearby regions, so they issued an orange alert for safety.

On Sunday, the highest temperature in Delhi was 17.3 degrees Celsius, which is lower than usual for this time of year. On Monday, temperatures are expected to be about 19 degrees Celsius during the day and drop to 7 degrees Celsius at night.

Starting Tuesday night, a weather system will bring rain and possibly snow to Jammu-Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand for the next three days. The IMD also mentioned that there will be chances of rain, thunderstorms, and lightning in Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi-NCR, and Uttar Pradesh on January 15 and 16.

During the next 48 hours, the lowest temperatures in Northwest and Central India are expected to drop by about 2-3 degrees Celsius. After that, temperatures may rise by 2-4 degrees Celsius over the next three days.

In terms of air quality, Delhi’s Air Quality Index (AQI) is currently in the ‘poor’ to ‘very poor’ range, with a reading of 374 at Anand Vihar as of 8 a.m. on Monday. On Sunday, the AQI was also in the ‘poor’ category at 273 in the evening.

The IMD said that dense fog is likely in different areas, including parts of Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and Rajasthan. Dense fog is especially expected in many regions of Punjab, Haryana, and Chandigarh, with some areas in Uttar Pradesh also affected.

In Jammu and Kashmir, the weather will be mostly cloudy but dry until January 18, with light snow possible in some high areas on January 15 and 16. Currently, Kashmir is experiencing ‘Chillai-Kalan,’ the coldest part of winter that started on December 21. This 40-day period usually has the most snowfall and the lowest temperatures.
